"Bow Ties" by Cindy Barger used ties in the bow tie quilt pattern.
She used her husband's ties after he left his "dress-up job". She said the quilt made better use of the ties.
Season 12, Episode 4 of Project Runway featured clothing sewn with neckties!
The challenge presented to the Project Runway designers was to use bow ties as inspiration, and to incorporate at least one tie into their design.

This episode was sponsored by Tie the Knot, an organization founded by actor Jesse Ferguson and his husband Justin Makita.
Tie the Knot advocates for gay marriage.
The organization name plays on the double meaning of tying a bow tie, with the euphemism of "tying the knot" in marriage.
They release a seasonal collection of neckties "to advocate for the civil rights of gay and lesbian Americans throughout the United States and to look damn good while doing it."
Contrary to what you might have been thinking, I have not abandoned this blog.
I just haven't had consistent internet access.

Wendy contacted me to tell me she's making a tablecloth for her wedding!
Very very cool.
I love to hear about your projects, and it's fun to hear about people getting<strike></strike> excited about sewing.
Wendy wasn't sure how to complete the center.
Laura, of Dishfunctional Designs, posted about these amazing decoupaged mirrors by Podged on Etsy.

Sadly, I can't find an active link to Podged, so if anyone knows, please give me a heads up.
Gorgeous tie quilt I saw on eBay.
The seller described it as "...It looks like it was made in the 1950's or 1960's from the ties that had gone out of fashion at that point...The backing is white cotton, and the face is entire made of ties"/
"...It measures approximately 46" square"
The seller claims it was purchased "about 20 years ago from Jon Lundberg's Vintage Men's Haberdashery, which used to be located in Kensington California."/woof nannyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10585916446298818033noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7507462524522280486.post-70784152307884043132011-04-12T09:14:00.000-07:002011-04-12T09:18:18.621-07:00Card Tutorial<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 121px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikVtN5sAaTHkUAG-fDoLR0jbgsQXo1srshdjtZUOEDw3XSP-gRV_fz0uxjU24y4Wv5Q4tczxJFLmlJNar6hRlhDjkjEme_QFENYJQiJo1cs6cSZ9WNeW1KtcPwaV3LPqQm-XPEv9AkhpE/s320/tie+card+holder.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5594731370874186306" />
There's a tutorial on how to make an envelope for a small card from a necktie, on the Urban Threads website.
Urban Threads sells unique and modern embroidery designs, both hand and machine styles.woof nannyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10585916446298818033noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7507462524522280486.post-4905924942405281272010-08-01T16:28:00.001-07:002010-08-01T17:18:54.758-07:00Upcycled Necktie RugsOne great way to recycle old neckties is to make rugs.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 305px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6400OcF8Z7tBZ58L2wbniYFeI0ILO2IdfJWA6VJzuOnl-Hb6Ryko1bwf5ztqdYOaq-tmaEqjG0GxpbLWRjQ_z8xsuHX5e3EDqy-ptQH8cSMzwFR2872XVaIRVhC4b_VrGneYunRgk3bU/s320/dreamweaver.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5500595506455986146" />
Dreamweavers’ "Executive" rug made from upcycled silk blend ties saved from the cutting floor.
See color selections here
According to Lifestyles Furniture's website, "Who said going green couldn’t look good? Our collaborative practice continues to develop site-specific configurations - exploring numerous architectural, physical and psychological intersections that our matierals and each new space present."

<img style="display:block; Both passed away several years ago."

The wonderful thing about necktie quilts is the emotional layers, including a layer of whimsy in fun fabrics, a layer as a time capsule, and a layer of remembrance.
Often, necktie quilts are memorial or mourning quilts.
Necktie quilts tell a story--of the year the ties were made and the prevalent styles and colors of that time, and they also tell of the people who wore these ties...and how they were important to us.woof nannyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10585916446298818033noreply@blogger.com1
